PO 315 - Democratic Theory and Practice
(3 cr.) The relationship between democratic ideas and practices in the formulation of public policy is analyzed. Topics include the nature of the citizen and community, the role of the community in policy making, and the ethics of political choice. Major policy issues include election reforms, racial inequality, the environment, and welfare and human rights in foreign policy. Students are expected to participate in group projects and discussions and do extensive analytical writing. Prerequisite: PO 215 or PO 216; Every Third Year, Fall
