| (3 cr.) This immunology course involves the investigation
of vaccines and vaccine preventable diseases. The
purpose of the course is to examine and discuss
the current understanding of vaccinations, as well
as the historical and current implication of
vaccine preventable diseases. By the end of the
semester, students should gain knowledge about
vaccine preventable diseases, understand how
vaccines work, how they are made, who recommends
vaccines, the childhood vaccination schedule, when
they should be given and why they are still
necessary. Most importantly, students should be
able to explain why vaccines are safe, and to be
able to debunk the current myths and
misconceptions regarding vaccines.
