| (3 cr.) Participants study the major themes and forms of
non-Western arts from East Asia, South Asia,
Africa, the Pre-Columbian Americas and Oceania,
with emphasis on their cultural, philosophical and
religious contexts. Students define works of art
both formally and within the framework of their
method of manufacture, audience and cultural
value. They also explore aspects of various
non-Western religions, cultural considerations and
influences in relation to the works. Students with
little experience of or no prior courses in art
history learn the basic terminology and
methodology of the field.
