| (2 cr.) Counterterrorism Law is a survey of legal,
constitutional, and international issues relating
to homeland security and the struggle against
international and domestic terrorism. Topics may
include intelligence gathering at home and abroad,
criminal investigations of terrorist activity,
detention and interrogation of terrorist suspects,
civil detention, military commissions, planning
responses to terrorist attacks (and natural
disasters), the domestic role of military forces,
and the protection of sensitive government
information. This course is designed to
complement the two-credit course in National
Security Law, which deals primarily with
separation of powers and checks and balances in t
he federal government, in the context of national
security, foreign affairs, and the war powers.
Without the permission of the instructor, this
course is not open to those who have taken a three
or four credit course in National Security Law.
