Melanie Abbott teaches poverty law, administrative law, civil procedure, and the judicial clerkship "Boot Camp" seminar. She joined the Quinnipiac faculty in 1989 after four years of practicing corporate law at Cadwalader, Wickersham and Taft, in Washington, D.C., and Day, Berry and Howard, in Hartford, Connecticut, and clerking for Judge Thomas J. Meskill on the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Her main scholarly interest is poverty law. In 1996, she co-founded the Law Students' Legal Action Fellowship program with Peter Yarrow. She also works with a group of business and academic colleagues on helping lawyers anticipate and plan for their Third Age, the 'bonus' between middle- and old-age in which significant growth and change is possible. Outside of class, she enjoys kayaking, reading, and competing in performance events with her three flat-coated retrievers.
