LAWS 546 - Law & Psychiatry
 
(2 cr.) This course will cover the definition of mental illness, the scope of the problem of mental illness and its societal effects, the training of psychiatrists and other mental health professionals, the institutions providing treatment for mental illness, the law with respect to civil commitment, the rights of mental patients, the criminal and civil liability of the mentally ill, and the role of mental health professionals as expert witnesses in selected areas of the law.
