SO 383 - Sociology of Law

(3 cr.) Students delve into the complex relationship between society and law. Does society create law, or does law create society? Society is itself a tangled web of laws turning would-be chaos into an organized bureaucratic existence. Participants use films, ethnographic work and an on-site courtroom observation project to explore and answer questions about the sociolegal world. Prerequisite: two courses from SO; Every Other Year
