EN 260 - (UC) Survey of American Literature I
 
(3 cr.) This course covers the development of American literature as reflected in the works of major authors and works from the Colonial era through the Civil War. Students gain an understanding and appreciation of this literature through study of the cultural background, the literary work itself, and the life of the author. Major authors may include Bradstreet, Emerson, Thoreau, Whitman, Hawthorne, Melville and Davis. Prerequisite: EN 101, EN 102 or EN 103H; Every Year, Fall
