John Powers is an adjunct professor of public relations at Quinnipiac University, bringing over 25 years of communications experience to the classroom. Presently, he is the Director of Public Affairs at Yale University School of Nursing in New Haven. His previous vocational experience includes communications and public relations work at The Children's Home, Cromwell, CT, and Midstate Medical Center in Meriden, CT.

Interests & Hobbies

Since 1990, Prof. Powers has annually led very large groups of students and adults to La Romana, Dominican Republic, where they have worked to build a hospital, schools, provide medical clinics, run educational programs, and provide hope to thousands of poor Haitians and Dominicans. In addition, he serves on the Board of Directors for the Good Samaritan Hospital in La Romana, DR. This medical facility has been built 100% by volunteers over the last 18 years, and currently serves over 60,000 patients each year. As part of this effort, he leads the Communications Committee for the Hospital and the Board. He has also traveled three times with a group to help with rebuilding in Pass Christian, MS. This Gulf Coast town was completely obliterated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
