Recent graduates of Quinnipiac's master of arts in teaching (MAT) program have achieved high pass rates on the Foundations of Reading Test, which measures candidates' knowledge of reading/language arts development, assessment, and instruction.

Teacher candidates must take and pass the exam in order to be eligible for elementary teacher certification in Connecticut.

Every year since the test was first implemented in 2009, Quinnipiac teacher candidates have earned among the highest passing rates in the state. In 2012, 98.1 percent of graduates passed the examination, ranking Quinnipiac third among the 16 colleges and universities in Connecticut that prepare elementary teachers. The percentage of candidates who passed the test in each of the 16 programs ranged from 75.6 to 100 percent for the 2011-2012 academic year.
