About

Welcome to Beth Larkins-Strathy's web page. I am the Associate Dean of the School of Education. My interests include middle level education, educational leadership, and teacher leadership. Education is a passion for me that has never ebbed. I love teaching, working with students and creating curriculum materials. My dissertation, “Teachers as Leaders: A Case Study of Practices That Encourage the Hearts of Students,” demonstrates the deep love I have for students and the teaching and learning process. I started my career as a sixth grade multi-subject teacher in northeastern Connecticut and after 16 years moved to Region 15 in western Connecticut. I taught social studies and language arts in grades six, seven and eight and was named 2000 Teacher of the Year in the region and a finalist for Connecticut State Teacher of the Year the following spring. In 1995, three colleagues and I developed the Middle Level Education program at Quinnipiac University. I taught Language Arts and Communication, Interdisciplinary Methods 1 and 2, and portfolio seminars to budding middle level candidates. After completing my administrative internship and a doctorate in educational leadership at the University of Hartford in 2007, I became assistant principal at the Middle School of Plainville. In 2010, I was hired by the university as Associate Dean. My favorite part of this wonderfully rewarding job is working with the students. That will never change.
