Students and faculty members spend a week in a rural school district in Nicaragua, leading a professional development conference for elementary and secondary school teachers in the region.
The education students present workshops pertaining to specific instructional strategies that local teachers can use in mathematics, science and language arts. The annual trip gives Quinnipiac students the opportunity to learn how Nicaraguan teachers use minimal materials in creative teachers' methods.
The program is supported by the Albert Schweitzer Institute, which provides students with volunteer opportunities locally and internationally.
