About
Mary Ferrari joined the School of Law faculty in 1986 after a varied career. She has specialized in labor matters at a Chicago law firm, addressed public benefits issues at Connecticut Legal Services, and developed an expertise in tax law. She teaches courses on federal income tax, taxation of business, nonprofit organizations, business planning, tax research, and tax aspects of corporate reorganizations. Her primary areas of research include low-income taxpayer issues and nonprofit organizations. She is the long-time faculty adviser to the Tax Law Society’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, which trains law students to prepare tax returns for low-income taxpayers, and she is co-chair of the faculty’s committee on academic advising. She has served for many years on the board of directors of New Haven Home Recovery, Inc., a nonprofit corporation that helps provide housing and services to homeless families. She is an avid fan of opera.
