Prematriculation Program 2013
The Netter Prematriculation is a six-week program for entering first-year medical students who may benefit from early exposure to the rigorous medical curriculum. The program is open to all admitted students who believe they will benefit from early exposure to the medical school environment.
The tentative dates are June 1 - July 19, 2013.
The program will benefit students who identify themselves as:
- A first-generation college student
- Economically disadvantaged
- A nontraditional student (second career, returned to school after an absence, non-science major)
- Interested in acclimating themselves early
Goals
- Facilitate the adjustment to the medical school environment
- Facilitate academic success in the medical school curriculum via individual assessment and applied learning
Program Components
- Academic enrichment: Students will be presented selected topics in anatomy, physiology and biochemistry and will be assessed on a weekly basis.
- Case-based learning: Each week a case study will be presented to the student group. Students will be required to identify, research and share findings necessary to solve the case.
- Skills assessment and development: Students will be evaluated on learning style, reading skills, test-taking skills, etc. An individualized plan will be developed for each participant to improve and enhance essential learning skills.
