Information on the Application Process
When to apply: Prospective freshmen should file an application as early in their senior year as possible and arrange to have first quarter senior grades sent from their high school as soon as they are available. Applications are available online and in print but we highly recommend they apply online. It's the application itself that 'drives' the admissions process - please do not advise students to wait to apply until they have all their test scores or fall grades. Those parts of the application can follow as they become available.

Nov. 15 is the recommended deadline for students applying for physical therapy, physician assistant and nursing. Feb. 1 is our listed application deadline for all other programs.

Early Decision option: High school seniors who have decided that Quinnipiac is where they want to attend and are interested in any major may choose to apply Early Decision for Fall 2013 by having their application to us by Nov. 1, and provide us with all other supportive materials and test scores, including first quarter grades by Dec. 1. Students who are offered admission to any major other than their first choice major will not be held to ED guidelines and will have a May 1 deposit due date. All students admitted through Early Decision will need to withdraw applications filed to other colleges and make their matriculation deposit by Feb. 1. Any ED applicant applying for financial aid must file the CSS Profile by Dec. 1 and the FAFSA by March 1. They will receive notification of their financial aid award in January.

How to apply: Students may use the Quinnipiac University application for admission or may apply by using the Common Application. There is no preference for which application the student may use - but we do encourage students to apply online.

The review process: The undergraduate admissions office works on a “rolling admissions” basis. The admissions committee begins the review process of completed applications in November, and we begin to notify ED applicants in mid-December, followed by all others.

Test scores: We require official SAT or ACT scores. We ask that students send us ALL scores of tests taken (because we value their efforts as well as their results!). We will (automatically) select the highest individual critical reading, math and writing score and/or the highest ACT composite score.

A completed application consists of:

  • Application form, online preferred ($45 fee) Students can use our online or paper application, or they may apply using the Common Application plus our supplemental form.
  • Personal statement (essay), as indicated on the application (minimum 250 words)
  • Official transcript
  • First quarter grades. (It is recommended that students arrange to have them sent as soon as they are available.)
  • Standardized test scores: Quinnipiac will continue to use the Critical Reading and Mathematics sections of the SAT I Reasoning Test and/or the ACT for admission and scholarship purposes. We ask that the students send us their official scores on the SAT or ACT.
  • An academic recommendation form (or an attached letter) is required from a teacher or the student's guidance counselor. Please be sure the student's full name appears on the form.

Students who are placed on a wait list are notified of any openings by June 1.

Students have until May 1 (postmark date) to respond to offers of admission, with a matriculation fee of $200 and housing deposit of $350. These deposits are refundable if we are notified in writing prior to June 1.

Helpful Facts
The Undergraduate Admissions Office received more than 19,000 applications for fall of 2012, admitted 62 percent of those who applied and will likely enroll about 1,750 freshmen and 190 transfer students. In recent years Quinnipiac has experienced a significant increase in the number of students applying and has found it necessary to establish a wait list. Any student placed on a wait list is notified of any openings by June 1.

We recommend that students visit the campus either for an Open House, group information session or a one-on-one interview. We ask that students use our online reservation system at www.quinnipiac.edu/visit to arrange their visit. We host group information sessions followed by a campus tour most Saturdays during the fall and spring semesters, and weekdays throughout the year. For questions, please call us at 1-800-462-1944 or 203-582-8600.

Advanced Standing: Quinnipiac does grant credit for AP level courses taken in high school. To receive consideration for credit students must take the AP exam and receive the following score(s).

Quinnipiac also awards credit for college courses taken as part of the high school curriculum. Students must request an official college transcript be sent to our Office of Undergraduate Admissions for evaluation. Courses completed with a “C” or higher, which are part of our regular curriculum, will transfer.

If students have taken an IB curriculum, we will consider awarding advanced standing for Higher Level courses, based on a minimum exam grade of 4.
