Department of Homeland Security's mandatory airport screenings

John Thomas

School of Law Professor John Thomas is available to comment on the Department of Homeland Security's mandatory airport screenings for people coming from West Africa.

"Mandatory airport screenings are an interesting middle ground between the left's advocacy for travel restrictions and the right's advocacy for travel bans," said Thomas. "This seems like a reasonable public health policy to allay the public's fears without ramping up public hysteria.  The question is will this be effective?  Remember Thomas Eric Duncan, the Liberian man who died of Ebola in Dallas, had his temperature taken and did not provide honest answers to airport screening questions.."
