Center for Excellence Honoree: Philip CarollaPhilip Carolla joined Quinnipiac's facilities department in 1995. Since then, he has touched the lives of hundreds of students.
Working in the Student Center puts him directly in the flurry of activity that takes place every day in the offices of student government, student activities and student organizations. He is known for keeping floors and windows spotless and prides himself on their appearance because those are usually the first things people notice. Even more noticeable is the friendly and personable first impression Phil himself makes. He is a paternal figure to many Quinnipiac students and knows them on a first-name basis. Not only does he take time out of his busy day to get acquainted with students, he often lends an ear when they need a caring person to listen.
In addition to these ambassadorial efforts and his custodial duties, Phil also has lent his support to students as an adviser to Alpha Phi Omega, a campus service organization. His sincere interest in and concern for Quinnipiac students led the Student Government Association to select him for the outstanding staff member award in 2000.
Phil takes great pride in doing his job well, but it is his extraordinary ability to foster a true sense of community- one of Quinnipiac's core values-that separates him from the pack. He and his wife, Jean, soon will celebrate 40 years of marriage. They have two daughters and two granddaughters and live in Hamden.
"As long as I like something, I'll give it 100 percent."
"I don't know any other university or college facilities worker as friendly as Phil.He not only shows his love of the job, but also his love for the Quinnipiac community. He's kindhearted, unselfish and a giving person."
