June 11, 2010 - Yankees, Red Sox Tied In Hearts Of Connecticut Fans, Quinnipiac University Poll Finds; No Bomber Bounce From World Series Win Word format There are no ties in baseball, but 39 percent of Connecticut fans cheer for the New York Yankees while 38 percent root for the Boston Red Sox, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. Another 11 percent say the New York Mets are their favorite team. This compares to a 42 - 38 percent Yankees lead in a June 1, 2009 survey by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University. This latest survey reflects the feelings of the 58 percent of Connecticut adults who say they are "very interested" or "somewhat interested" in Major League Baseball. The Bronx Bombers score best in New Haven, Middlesex, Litchfield, and Fairfield Counties, while the Red Sox rule in Tolland, Windham, New London and Hartford Counties. "A tie is like kissing your brother or sister, but the Yankees and Red Sox are in a statistical dead heat. The Yankees did not get a bounce out of their World Series win," said Quinnipiac University Poll Director Douglas Schwartz, PhD. "From 2003 -2008, the Red Sox chipped away at the Yankees lead, until they were basically tied in 2008 and it has stayed close for the last 3 years." From June 2 - 8, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,506 Connecticut residents with a margin of error of +/- 2.5 percentage points. The Quinnipiac University Poll conducts public opinion surveys in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Florida, Ohio and the nation as a public service and for research.
