October 29, 2009 - Yankees Top Phillies 2 - 1 In New Jersey, Quinnipiac University Poll Finds Word format By a 58 - 28 percent margin, New Jersey residents are cheering for the New York Yankees to beat the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. Only 14 percent are undecided. The Bronx Bombers sweep every political, age, gender and regional group in the Garden State except the South Jersey Philadelphia suburbs, where the Phillies lead 80 - 10 percent, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds. There is a gender gap as the Yankees lead 56 - 32 percent among men and 60 - 25 percent among women. "In New Jersey at World Series time it's root, root, root for the neighbors. Most of the Garden State wants the team across the Hudson River to win. They like the Yankees. But in the suburbs just across the Delaware from Philadelphia, they like the Phillies," said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. "Women really like the Yankees. Don't the Phillies have any matinee idols to match Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez?" From October 21 - 26, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,324 New Jersey adults, with a margin of error of +/- 2.7 percentage points.
