December 22, 2010 - Gov. Christie Is Scrooge, Not Santa, New Jersey Voters Tell Quinnipiac University Poll 2-1 Word format New Jersey voters have a big "Bah, Humbug!" for Gov. Christopher Christie as 54 percent see him more as Scrooge while 28 percent see him more as Santa Claus, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. Republicans see Gov. Christie as Santa Claus 47 - 36 percent, but the Scrooge label comes 71 - 15 percent from Democrats and 54 - 29 percent from independent voters, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds. There is a small gender gap under the mistletoe as women say Scrooge 57 - 26 percent and men apply the title 52 - 30 percent. The Scrooge label runs from 47 - 38 percent among voters at the shore to 61 - 25 percent in the South Jersey Philadelphia suburbs. "At this Christmas season, Quinnipiac University turned to Charles Dickens and Clement Clarke Moore for inspiration," said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. "We seem to have inspired voters, especially Democrats, to say their governor could use a visit from the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future. Maybe next year, Gov. Chris. "Meanwhile, our message to you and to politicians and poll respondents alike is: 'God bless us, every one.'" From December 14 - 19, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,276 New Jersey voters, with a margin of error of +/- 2.7 percentage points.
