April 22, 2011 - Xanadu Is Ugly, New Jersey Voters Tell Quinnipiac University Poll; But Xana-Don't Spend Tax Dollars To Fix It Word format Among New Jersey voters who know anything about the Xanadu project in The Meadowlands, 79 percent agree with Gov. Christopher Christie that it's ugly and 8 percent say it's attractive, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. Men say it's ugly 83 - 7 percent and women agree 75 - 10 percent. The 43 percent of voters who know about Xanadu are narrowly divided about the project's future as 46 percent say it should go forward and 41 percent say it should be abandoned, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds. But voters oppose 77 - 15 percent spending state money to redo the Xanadu exterior. All political and regional groups and men and women agree. "New Jersey voters say it's Xana-don't," said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. "Xanadu, that oddly shaped, oddly colored structure in The Meadowlands, isn't familiar to most New Jerseyans, which probably is good news. "Those who do know about it agree with Gov. Christopher Christie that it's a visual atrocity." From April 12 - 18, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,532 registered voters with a margin of error of +/- 2.5 percentage points.
