October 18, 2012 - New Jersey Voters Want The Right To Smile, Quinnipiac University Poll Finds; Kick Snooki, Real Housewives Out Of Town, Voters Say Word format Watch Video: Assistant Director Tim Malloy discusses poll results Clip Information and Download: FLV File - For Website (1920x1080 / 55.1MB) Original .MP4 File - For Broadcast (1920x1080 / 346.6MB) New Jersey voters disapprove 62 - 17 percent of the state's ban on smiling for driver's license photos, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. Men want the right to smile as much as women. Older voters do, too, but not as much as younger voters. The strongest call for the right to smile, 69 - 15 percent, is among voters making more than $250,000 per year, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds. Voters aren't smiling about Jersey Shore and other reality TV shows as they support 72 - 21 percent a proposed law that would allow towns to have more say over reality TV shows filming in their neighborhoods. Even voters 18 to 34 years old support the proposal 73 - 25 percent. Voter opinion of Jersey Shore, in its last season is unfavorable 66 - 8 percent. "Dealing with the Motor Vehicle Commission is not something to smile about, but Garden State voters want the right to grin and bear it," said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. "Wealthier voters, who presumably have more to smile about, are most opposed to the ban on smiling for driver's licenses. "New Jersey voters are smiling to see the last of Snooki and her crew. They think Jersey Shore was bad for the state and they think towns should have more power to keep Real Housewives and other reality TV under control." From October 10 - 14, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,405 registered voters with a margin of error of +/- 2.6 percentage points. Live interviewers call land lines and cell phones. The Quinnipiac University Poll, directed by Douglas Schwartz, Ph.D., conducts public opinion surveys in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida, Ohio, Virginia and the nation as a public service and for research.
