April 7, 2011 - Schools Chancellor Black Had 17 Percent Approval, In March 16 Quinnipiac University Poll; Lowest Ever For Any Citywide Official Word format New York City Schools Chancellor Cathleen Black had a negative 17 - 49 percent approval rating in a March 16 Quinnipiac University poll of 1,115 city voters, the lowest approval rating ever for any city-wide official. Voters with children in public schools gave Chancellor Black a negative 18 - 53 percent approval rating, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll found. Her negative rating ranged from 21 - 37 percent among Manhattan voters to 8 - 56 percent among Staten Island voters. Quinnipiac University has been measuring approval ratings for city-wide elected officials, schools chancellors and police commissioners for more than 15 years. From March 8 - 14, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,115 registered voters with a margin of error of +/- 2.9 percentage points. Live interviewers call land lines and cell phones.
