August 15, 2013 - No Lifetime Ban For A-Rod, New York Fans Say 2-1, Quinnipiac University Poll Finds; Fans Divided On 211-Game Ban PDF format New York City baseball fans say 69 - 26 percent that New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez should not be banned for life from playing baseball, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. New York Yankees fans oppose a lifetime ban 74 - 20 percent, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds. All New York baseball fans are divided on Major League Baseball's 211-game ban of Rodriguez as 36 percent say it's appropriate; 36 percent say it's too severe and 22 percent say it's not severe enough. Among Yankees fans, 37 percent say the current ban is appropriate, while 40 percent say it's too severe and 18 percent say it's not severe enough. A total of 49 percent of New York City adults say they are "very interested" or "somewhat interested" in Major League Baseball. Of that group, 62 percent list the Yankees as their favorite team, while 23 percent cheer for the Mets. "Say it ain't so, Alex. Most New York fans say Major League Baseball's 211-game ban of Alex Rodriquez is appropriate or not severe enough. But all fans, especially Yankees fans, want to see A-Rod back in baseball whenever this is all worked out," said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. From August 7 - 12, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,864 New York City adults with a margin of error of +/- 2.3 percentage points. The survey includes 995 baseball fans with a margin of error of +/- 3.1 percentage points. Live interviewers call land lines and cell phones.
