November 7, 2005 - Bloomberg Has 38-Point Lead One Day Before Election, Quinnipiac University Poll Finds Republican Mayor Michael Bloomberg leads Democratic challenger Fernando Ferrer 68 - 30 percent among New York City likely voters, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. Conservative candidate Thomas Ognibene gets 2 percent. In this final survey, undecided voters are allocated to the candidates they are most likely to support, a step not taken in prior surveys. The independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University survey shows Bloomberg leading Ferrer 81 - 17 percent among white likely voters and 58 - 40 percent among black likely voters, while Hispanic likely voters back Ferrer 57 - 40 percent. Bloomberg leads 60 - 40 percent among Democrats, 89 - 7 percent among Republicans and 82 - 16 percent among independent voters. "Mayor Bloomberg is poised for a win of historic proportions. He has waged a very well-financed and highly effective campaign to convince New York City voters that he deserves four more years," said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. From October 31 - November 6, Quinnipiac University surveyed 712 New York City likely voters, with a margin of error of +/- 3.7 percentage points.
