June 1, 2012 - New York Loves Yankees, Quinnipiac University Poll Finds Word format New York State baseball fans back the Yankees over the Mets 60 - 22 percent, with 5 percent cheering for the Boston Red Sox, according to a Quinnipiac University poll release today. The Philadelphia Phillies are the favorites for 2 percent with no other team topping 1 percent. A total of 52 percent of New York State adults are "very interested" or "somewhat interested" in Major League Baseball, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds. Of those fans, the Yankees top the Mets 58 - 23 percent among men and 62 - 21 percent among women. The Bombers are ahead 62 - 21 percent in New York City, 56 - 38 percent in the suburbs and 59 - 12 percent among upstate voters. "New Yorkers are in a Yankees state of mind, backing the Bombers over the Mets almost 3-1, with a smattering of Red Sox support, especially upstate," said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. From May 22 - 28, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,705 New York State adults with a margin of error of +/- 2.4 percentage points. Live interviewers call land lines and cell phones.
