Scholarships and Grants

The school will award academic, need-based and merit scholarships up to full-tuition with special consideration given to individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds and students interested in primary care. All accepted students who have completed their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as well as their Need Access application will be considered for academic, merit and need based grant.

Academic Excellence Scholarship

Purpose:
To identify matriculating medical students who have demonstrated exceptional academic excellence and commitment to community service. 

Scholarship requirements:
To apply for this scholarship, applicants must:
  • be accepted to the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine and matriculate in Fall 2014
  • submit the 2014-2015 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • submit the 2014-2015 Need Access Appilcation
  • have demonstrated excellence and dedication in leadership roles as an undergraduate at their institution and/or in their community
  • possess strong personal qualities of motivation and integrity as well as academic excellence
  • academic honors, scholarships, and special recognitions for academic excellence and a list of additional academic experiences outside the classroom (e.g. research and/or publications)
Award amount:  up to $25,000 annually

Application deadline: Feb. 28, 2014 or within two weeks after the receipt of your acceptance to the medical school if admitted after Feb. 15, 2014. All award decisions will be made no later than May 1, 2014.

Dr. Bruce M. Koeppen - Founding Dean Scholarship

Purpose: To support first year medical students who have demonstrated excellence in spite of educational or economic hardships.        

Scholarship requirements:  To apply for this scholarship, an applicant must:
  • be accepted to the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine and matriculate in Fall 2014
  • submit the 2014-2015 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • complete the 2014-2015 Need Access Application
  • demonstrated commitment to community service
Award amount:  up to $18,000 annually

Commitment to Community Service (CCS) Scholarship

Purpose: To identify first-year medical students who have demonstrated academic excellence and a passion for serving others, non-traditional communities or communities in need of additional assistance.  For example, we wish to award students who have made a positive impact in urban, rural, LGBT and international communities and our physically and cognitively challenged population, to name a few.   

Scholarship requirements: To apply for this scholarship, applicants must:
  • be accepted to the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine and matriculate in Fall 2014
  • submit the 2014-2015 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • complete the 2014-2015 Need Access Application
  • demonstrated commitment to community service 
Award amount:  up to $18,000 annually

Purpose: To identify and nurture first-year medical students who are first generation college graduates that have demonstrated academic excellence and commitment to community service. 

Scholarship requirements: To apply for this scholarship, an applicant must:

  • submit the 2014-2015 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

  • be a first generation college graduate

Health Care Shortage Scholarship

Purpose: Access to primary health care providers is very limited in certain areas. Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs) are designated by HRSA as having shortages of primary medical care and may be geographic (a county or service area), demographic (low income population) or institutional (comprehensive health center, federally qualified health center or other public facility). Medically Underserved Areas/Populations are areas or populations designated by HRSA as having: too few primary care providers, high infant mortality, high poverty and/or high elderly population. The purpose of this scholarship is to identify and nurture the interest of first year medical students who would like to pursue a career in areas that are medically underserved as defined by the U.S. Department Health and Human Services (HRSA). 

Scholarship requirements: To apply for this scholarship, applicants must: 
  • have been accepted to the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine and matriculate in Fall 2014
  • submit the 2014-2015 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • complete the 2014-2015 Need Access Application
  • demonstrate a commitment to practice medicine in a designated health care shortage area as defined by HRSA.
  • write an essay answering the following: Access to primary health care providers is very limited in certain areas. What is your long term plan to contribute in helping to solve this crisis?
Award Amount:  up to $18,000 annually

Leadership Scholarship

Purpose: To recognize those who aspire to become leaders in health care and have demonstrated an exceptional level of leadership either at their undergraduate institutions and/or in their communities. The scholarships will be awarded to those who have demonstrated a commitment and talent for leadership as well as academic excellence and financial need.

Scholarship requirements: To apply for this scholarship, applicants must:
  • be accepted to the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine and matriculate in Fall 2014
  • submit the 2014-2015 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • submitted the 2014-2015 Need Access Application
  • have demonstrated excellence and dedication in leadership roles as an undergraduate at their institution and/or in their community
  • write an essay detailing how your past leadership roles have shaped your future goals in medicine
Award amount:  up to $18,000 annually

Primary Care Scholarship

Purpose: To identify and nurture the interest of first year medical students who wish to pursue a career in primary care (pediatrics, family medicine, or general internal medicine). This scholarship is renewable up to four years.

Scholarship Requirements: To apply for this scholarship, applicants must:
  • Have been accepted to the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine and matriculate in Fall 2014
  • Have submitted the 2014-2015 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • submitted the 2014-2015 Need Access Application
  • Have demonstrated academic excellence and dedication to pursuing a career as a primary care physician
  • Write an essay detailing how your past experiences have cultivated your aspirations toward becoming a primary care physician. 
Award Amount:  up to $18,000 annually

Purpose: For students who received a bachelor's degree from Quinnipiac University and have been involved in significant extracurricular leadership or service during their undergraduate years.

  • must be an alumni of Quinnipiac University
