Diane Sawyer departs 'World News'
Paul Friedman, a former executive vice president of ABC News who is now a professional-in-residence at the School of Communications, is available to discuss Diane Sawyer's departure as anchor of "World News."
"Diane is going out after having a victory in the ratings," Friedman said. "The interesting thing about this announcement will be to see if putting David Muir in the anchor's chair will change the broadcast at all. David may want to add more hard new content. Another interesting development is that ABC has named George Stephanopoulos the chief anchor, who will lead the network's coverage during special reports. This may be a smart way to keep David out in the field covering stories and not chained to the anchor desk."
