Hackers steal eBay user information database
Brian Kelly, information security officer at Quinnipiac University, is available to discuss password protection following eBay's announcement that hackers have stolen a database full of its user information.
"eBay has millions of user IDs, email addresses and passwords, making it an attractive target," Kelly said. "Since many people reuse the same password on multiple sites, getting an ID and password from eBay's database may open up many other user accounts. Since passwords are an essential aspect of information security, providing important front-line protection against unauthorized access to information is paramount. Best practices call for not reusing the same password across multiple sites and changing your passwords frequently."
