Dec. 2, 2013 - The Quinnipiac Student Nurses Association kicked off the holiday season by donating Thanksgiving baskets to local residents in need.

Thirty members of the QSNA assembled eight basket-sized tins of non-perishable food items, supermarket gift certificates and hand-written cards for residents of Davenport-Dunbar Senior Housing in Hamden, Conn.

QSNA officers Emily Schiarizzi and Claire O'Connell joined faculty advisor Donna Diaz, lab coordinator at the School of Nursing, to deliver the baskets. Florence Klemenz, service coordinator at Davenport-Dunbar, accepted the donation and distributed the baskets to residents in need over the holiday weekend.

According to Diaz, each tin contained everything one would need for a full Thanksgiving meal, right down to the cranberry sauce, stuffing and a Stop & Shop gift certificate to be used toward the purchase of a turkey.

"It's great that our students are willing to give up their time, especially during the end of the semester when they have exams on their mind," said Diaz. "They're able to think above and beyond to other folks that are in need during the holidays."
