June 3, 2004 - Rowland Should Testify, Connecticut Voters Say 11-1 Quinnipiac University Poll Finds; Voters Say Almost 3-1 Governor Should Resign
By an 88 - 8 percent margin, Connecticut voters say Gov. John Rowland should testify before a legislative impeachment committee, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. Voters say 69 - 25 percent, including 53 - 39 percent among Republicans, that the Governor should resign.

This compares to a 70 - 25 percent margin for Rowland's resignation, including 59 - 36 percent among Republicans, in an April 1 poll by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University.

Connecticut voters say 57 - 34 percent that the State Legislature should impeach and remove Rowland, little changed from April 1.

Rowland's negative 25 - 66 percent approval rating is virtually unchanged since April 1. Voters also say 80 - 14 percent that Rowland is not honest and trustworthy.

"Connecticut voters say Gov. Rowland should testify about the controversy that has dogged his administration. Since most of these voters have been consistent in their feelings that Rowland should resign or be impeached, it seems he has little to lose by testifying," said Quinnipiac University Poll Director Douglas Schwartz, Ph.D.

From May 26 - June 1, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,350 Connecticut registered voters with a margin of error of +/- 2.7 percentage points.

The Quinnipiac University Poll conducts public opinion surveys in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and the nation as a public service and for research.
