December 17, 2003 - Connecticut Voters Split On Rowland Resignation Quinnipiac University Poll Finds; Voters Say 4-1 Governor Is Not Honest
Connecticut voters are split on whether Gov. John Rowland should resign, with 44 percent saying he should go and 45 percent saying he should stay, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. Eight percent are undecided.

Democrats say 53 - 37 percent and independent voters say 47 - 40 percent that Rowland should resign. Republicans say 67 - 26 percent he should stay.

Gov. Rowland has a negative 30 - 61 percent approval rating, the lowest ever measured for a governor or mayor by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll. Rowland had a negative 37 - 52 percent approval in a November 21 poll.

Voters say 73 - 18 percent that Rowland is not honest.

A total of 90 percent of Connecticut voters have heard or read about the controversy involving renovations to Rowland's Bantam Lake cottage.

"Gov. Rowland has lost the trust of Connecticut voters as only 18 percent say he is honest. Even Republicans say 61 - 28 percent that he is not honest," said Quinnipiac University Poll Director Douglas Schwartz, Ph.D.

On December 15 and 16, Quinnipiac University surveyed 869 Connecticut registered voters with a margin of error of +/- 3.3 percent.

The Quinnipiac University Poll conducts public opinion surveys in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and the nation as a public service and for research.
