April 14, 2014 - New Jersey Voters Give Gov OK Grades For Sandy, Quinnipiac University Poll Finds; 93 Percent Say They're Stronger Than The Storm
PDF format

New Jersey voters approve 51 - 42 percent of the way Gov. Christopher Christie is handling the recovery from Superstorm Sandy, according to a Quinnipiac University Poll released today.

Insurance companies get the worst grades for Sandy recovery work, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds. Ratings are:
  • 39 percent say the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Sandy efforts are good or excellent, while 52 percent say not so good or poor;
  • 47 percent say state government's work on Sandy recovery is good or excellent, while 48 percent say not so good or poor;
  • 63 percent say their local government's recovery work is good or excellent, while 23 percent say not so good or poor;
  • 22 percent say the insurance companies' Sandy work is good or excellent, while 63 percent say not so good or poor.
Only 5 percent of New Jersey voters say they've changed vacation plans because of Sandy, while 93 percent say they have not changed plans.

"Garden State voters flunk FEMA and insurance companies for their Sandy recovery work. Gov. Christopher Christie does a little better and local government scores well," said Maurice Carroll, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.

"And - in a New Jersey sort of defiance - practically everyone says they're not letting the storm's depredations change their summer vacation plans."

From April 2 - 7, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,356 New Jersey voters, with a margin of error of +/- 2.7 percentage points. Live interviewers call land lines and cell phones.

The Quinnipiac University Poll, directed by Douglas Schwartz, Ph.D., conducts public opinion surveys in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida, Ohio, Virginia, Iowa, Colorado and the nation as a public service and for research.
