November 4, 2002 - Lautenberg Has 50-39 % Lead In Jersey Senate Race, Final Quinnipiac University Poll Finds; Forrester Gains No Ground In Two Weeks
Former Sen. Frank Lautenberg has a commanding 50 - 39 percent lead over Republican Douglas Forrester among likely voters in New Jersey's U.S. Senate race, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. This tally includes likely voters who are leaning toward one of the candidates.

In an October 22 poll by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University, Lautenberg was ahead 52 - 43 percent.

Democratic likely voters back Lautenberg 89 - 4 percent, while Republicans back Forrester 85 -9 percent. Independent likely voters back Lautenberg 45 - 40 percent.

Men voters back the Republican 48 - 41 percent, not enough to overcome the Democrat's 60 - 29 percent lead with women voters.

From October 28 - November 3, Quinnipiac University surveyed 574 New Jersey likely voters, with a margin of error of +/- 4.1 percent.

The Quinnipiac University Poll, directed by Douglas Schwartz, Ph.D., conducts public opinion surveys in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and nationally as a public service and for research.
