November 4, 2002 - Pataki Tops McCall 45-29 Percent In New York Gov Race, Final Quinnipiac University Poll Finds; Golisano Has 14 Percent
Republican Gov. George Pataki has an insurmountable 45 - 29 percent lead over Democratic Comptroller H. Carl McCall among likely voters, with 14 percent for Independence Party candidate Thomas Golisano, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. This survey includes those leaning towards a candidate.

In an October 16 survey of likely voters by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe- ack) University, Pataki was ahead of McCall 47 - 31 percent with 18 percent for Golisano.

If Golisano were not running, 41 percent of his supporters would go to McCall and 38 percent would go to Pataki.

Pataki leads McCall 76 - 8 percent among likely Republican voters with 10 percent for Golisano, and 39 - 25 percent among independent voters, with 21 percent for Golisano. McCall leads 55 - 24 percent among Democrats, with 13 percent for Golisano.

In the race for State Comptroller, Democrat Alan Hevesi leads Republican John Faso 49 - 34 percent, compared to Hevesi's 44 - 35 percent lead October 16.

Democratic incumbent State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer leads Republican challenger Dora Irizarry 68 - 18 percent.

From October 28 - November 3, Quinnipiac University surveyed 624 New York State likely voters with a margin of error of +/- 3.9 percent.
