November 2, 1998 - Schumer Moves To Slight 50 - 42 Percent Lead, Quinnipiac College Poll Finds
U. S. Rep. Charles Schumer, the Democratic challenger, has moved to a narrow 50 - 42 percent lead over Republican incumbent Sen. Alfonse D'Amato among likely voters in the close New York Senate race, according to a Quinnipiac College Poll released today.

This compares to an October 27 poll by the independent Quinnipiac College where Rep. Schumer got 48 percent of likely voters and Sen. D'Amato got 44 percent, a statistical tie.

D'Amato leads 48 - 42 percent among likely voters upstate, while Schumer takes New York City 69 - 26 percent. In the suburbs, D'Amato wins 51 - 44 percent.
