November 6, 2006 - Hevesi Has 12-Point Lead In Comptroller's Race, Quinnipiac University New York State Poll Finds; Cuomo Leads Pirro 53 - 37% In Attorney General Race
New York State Comptroller Alan Hevesi, a Democrat, has a 50 - 38 percent likely voter lead over Republican challenger J. Christopher Callaghan, with 10 percent undecided and 18 percent of voters who name a candidate saying they could change their mind before Election Day, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

This compares to a 54 -27 percent Hevesi lead in an October 18 poll by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University.

Independent voters shifted from 51 - 24 percent for Hevesi October 18 to 47 - 38 percent for Callaghan today.

In the race for State Attorney General, Democrat Andrew Cuomo leads Republican Jeanine Pirro 53 - 37 percent among likely voters.

"You can't beat a somebody, even a scandal-scarred somebody, with a nobody, and Comptroller Alan Hevesi is still somebody, while few voters know challenger, Christopher Callaghan, " said Maurice Carroll, Director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

From October 30 - November 5, Quinnipiac University surveyed 705 New York State likely voters with a margin of error of +/- 3.7 percent.

The Quinnipiac University Poll, directed by Douglas Schwartz, Ph.D., conducts public opinion surveys in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Florida, Ohio and nationwide as a public service and for research.
