WQUN hosts Business After Hours networking event

The Hamden Chamber of Commerce held its monthly Business After Hours networking event at the University's Ireland's Great Hunger Museum, 3011 Whitney Avenue, on Tuesday, Jan. 22. The event, hosted by WQUN, drew a crowd of about 90 people.

Following the reception at the museum, many guests headed to the University's TD Bank Sports Center to watch the Bobcats men's ice hockey team take on the UConn Huskies. The Bobcats triumphed, extending their winning streak. Read more about the game.

Ireland's Great Hunger Museum is home to the world's largest collection of visual art, artifacts and printed materials relating to the Irish Famine. The museum preserves, builds and presents its art collection in order to stimulate reflection, inspire imagination and advance awareness of Ireland's Great Hunger and its long aftermath on both sides of the Atlantic.



WQUN co-sponsors holiday gift collection for local seniors

Senior Gift Run

AM 1220 WQUN, VNA Community Healthcare Community Outreach, Quinnipiac Bank and Trust Company and Hamden's Miller Senior Center teamed up to organize the third annual Hamden Senior Holiday Gift Run.

The 2012 Senior Gift Run effort resulted in $1,300 worth of gifts and $800 in gift cards for food and fuel being distributed to seniors in the community. Items were given out at a celebration held Dec. 19 at the Miller Senior Center in Hamden. The event ensures that some of our senior friends experience the spirit of the holiday season. Gifts were also distributed to seniors who are home-bound and were unable to attend.

WQUN receives Hamden Chamber's Community Advocate of the Year Award

The Hamden Chamber of Commerce presented its prestigious Community Advocate of the Year Award to WQUN during its Chamber Choice Awards on Nov. 2, 2011, at the Laurel View Country Club.







Dick Robinson visits WQUN

Dick Robinson, host of the syndicated program "American Standards by the Sea" was a guest on WQUN's "The Morning Show" with Ray Andrewsen on June 15, 2011.

Robinson, also the owner and founder of the Connecticut School of Broadcasting, discussed his life in radio and the rapidly evolving broadcast field.

Popular meteorologist Dr. Mel Goldstein dies at 66

Mel Goldstein, popular Connecticut television and radio meteorologist, died Jan. 18, 2012, at Smilow Cancer Hospital in New Haven, following a bout of pneumonia. Goldstein, who had battled multiple myleoma for 16 years, was host of the weather program on WQUN.

"Today WQUN lost a very dear and treasured member of our broadcast family. Dr. Mel Goldstein has served Connecticut and the greater New Haven community with remarkable distinction as the state's pre-eminent meteorologist," said Ray Andrewsen, WQUN general manager.

"His passion for science and teaching, the thrill he experienced with every passing weather event, his intelligence and his deep reservoir of courage and good cheer have left a lasting impression on viewers, listeners, and his extended Connecticut family."
