| CLEW BAY, CO. MAYO.- The above beautiful expanse of water is an inlet of the Atlantic ocean on the matchless Mayo coast, and is fifteen miles long by eight broad. The mountains on its northern boundary have an altitude from 1,250 to 2,500 feet, culminating in the stately peak of Croagh Patrick, generally called "the Reek," and said to be one of the mountains on which the great apostle of Ireland preached to the people the gospel of Christ. |
