| GATEWAY, COL. TORRINGTON'S RESIDENCE, ON THE BOYNE. -The aspect of the country which was the theatre of the Battle of the Boyne, in 1690, has greatly changed since the end of the seventeenth century. Then, both banks of the river were somewhat marshy, sedgy and destitue of timber, so that the operations of the contending armies ere not screened from the respective commanders as they would be to-day, where the lovely banks of the Boyne are dominated by the splendid seats of the aristocracy and clothed richly with groves of stately trees. |
