This journey is for you, too. Whether you live around the corner or in a remote corner of the globe, you are part of the Bobcat family.
We know the decision to send your child to study at Quinnipiac is a huge commitment from you, and our goal is to be as transparent as possible with the need-to-know information you're looking for.
Check back often for up-to-date news, events and contact information for resources across campus.
We are now entering week four of classes along with university clubs and organizations in full swing for optimal student engagement.
Athletic games are seeing record crowds in many sports, and the new baseball field is almost complete and ready for the first game in a few weeks. When I arrived at Quinnipiac three years ago during COVID, I often wondered what the “feel for spirit” was on the campus. Three years later, it is clear to feel the pride students have for being Bobcats. At the men’s home ice hockey games, I visit the student section and toss Quinnipiac shirts into the audience, it never ceases to amaze me how excited students get for the chance to catch the extra swag.
In the coming weeks, religious holidays will begin and/or will be celebrated. We have finalized our interviews for the newly created position of director of spiritual well-being and hope to announce that person in the coming weeks. In the meantime, there are several other announcements in religious life at QU; Ramadan is next month, and we have worked with the Muslim Student Association to ensure halal food will be served seven days a week after sunset. Jewish Life will now report to Student Affairs and will continue its traditional Shabbat dinner on Fridays along with preparation for the Passover. Catholic life has now fallen under the jurisdiction of the Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish, and we offer masses every Sunday at 4 p.m. in the Mount Carmel Campus’ chapel. We have new chaplains as well, two Franciscan sisters from Meriden will be here weekly to support programs for our students. We will continue to investigate a variety of faith-based support systems for students who practice other religious traditions not currently served through our chaplains.
The Grove residence hall is well on its way to being ready for this upcoming fall, more than 400 students will be assigned to live there. We are excited that it will be a “mixed-class” hall, housing up to 100 upper-class students and 300 first-year students. The students selected will not have to go through room selection, as they can choose their roommate or a single room as a member of the mentor program. I would highly encourage family members to speak with their student. This is a tremendous opportunity to gain more leadership skills, mentor another student and enjoy living in this world-class new building. Mentors need to apply for this volunteer opportunity by February 22.
As always, should you have any questions or need guidance on assisting your student with an issue, please feel free to contact us at QUParents@qu.edu.
From the founding days of the nation’s republic to today’s call for unity in a divisive time, former U.S. Senator Joseph Lieberman’s talk, “Creating Dialogue Across Differences,” drew a capacity crowd to Quinnipiac’s Critical Conversations Speaker Series on March 7.
Quinnipiac Men's Basketball clinched sole possession of the regular season MAAC title on Saturday, earning a road win at Saint Peter's by the final score of 89-74. The Bobcats finish the regular season with a 23-8 overall mark. Quinnipiac went 15-5 in league play to earn the program's first-ever regular season MAAC title.

Students transitioning to graduate school at Quinnipiac
Accelerated dual-degree and dual-degree students
Congratulations! Your student has almost completed their undergraduate education here at Quinnipiac. We have been meeting with students to assist them in planning for and making the transition to their graduate program in the summer/fall.
In the fall semester, Graduate Admissions held the initial Transition to Graduate School meeting with students. Katie Ludovico, senior associate director of graduate admissions, explained the admissions process to students and shared the “Transition to Grad School” form, which serves as their application to graduate school at Quinnipiac.
As we kicked off the spring semester, we have begun meeting with students to complete the Transition to Graduate School meetings. These meetings have been scheduled in collaboration with their program directors and/or schools and our Graduate Financial Aid and Graduate Student Affairs team.
During this second meeting, the students learn about graduate services, graduate engagement opportunities and graduate housing from Graduate Student Affairs. Graduate Financial Aid shares in-depth information on how to finance their graduate education including the costs, timelines and paperwork. All students who attend this session can access the handouts on Blackboard under the Organization section they have been invited to join. This allows them to easily share that information with you. These situations were conducted by Heather Hamilton, director of graduate financial aid, and Gina Frank, dean of graduate student affairs.
In addition, we are excited to share that each student who will be joining our graduate community will receive an academic cord to designate them as a dual degree student and will be entering our graduate programs as life-long learners.
The dates of the upcoming meetings:
Thursday, February 15: MSBA/MSA
Monday, February 19: MCB
Monday, February 19: MAT
Wednesday, February 21: MBA
Thursday, February 22: MSW
Monday, February 26: MAT
Tuesday, February 27: AMIL
Thursday, February 29: MAT
Monday, March 4: Computer science and cybersecurity

What’s new from Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL)
Spring Recruitment is underway. There are lots of opportunities to join a fraternity or sorority this semester. If your Bobcat wants to find their home away from home, establish a community of peers with similar values, participate in service/philanthropy events, and have fun, feel free to direct them our way for information about joining.
On February 1, the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life (OFSL) partnered with the Office of Inclusive Excellence to bring Lawrence Ross to campus as part of the Critical Conversations series. He spoke with several leaders in the fraternity and sorority community about ways to make our organizations more inclusive.
From February 22-24, the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life will be taking almost 30 students to Hartford for the annual Northeast Greek Leadership Association (NGLA) conference. This conference invests in fraternity and sorority leaders through a variety of fraternal experiences to transform and empower their community and align actions with values.
Save the date: our 10th annual Greek Week will be held from April 8-12. Our signature events include lip sync and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life’s Got Talent. There will be many more events throughout the week as well.

National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) is a club on campus and an amazing resource for parents. If you suspect that your child may be struggling mentally or emotionally, remember the five Ts: Tell, Test, Teach, Talk, Take Action.
Tell your child they can come to you with any problem
Test their academic health by checking their end of semester grades
Teach them how to recognize depression and anxiety
Talk with them more often or visit if they are in distress
Take action if your student is experiencing high-risk mental health concerns

Please encourage your student to regularly check their meal point balances on Transact and compare it to the week-by-week budget guideline which shows a suggested balance week-by-week throughout the semester. Find information about how to access Transact and view the week-by-week budget guidelines on the Meal Plan Budgets and Staying on Track page of our website.
Too many points? Students who have more points than the budget recommends can use their points until the end of the spring term. Alternatively, they can transfer their points to another student or participate in the food and beverage bulk purchase program that is announced toward the end of the term.
Too few points? Students who have fewer points than the budget recommends can negotiate a transfer of points from another student, supplement with QCash or use a credit card.
More Tips: All students are offered a receipt at check out in the dining halls. Students should review their receipt to stay informed about how they are spending their points.
The Hereld House for Jewish Life is alive and loud with student musings and Mitzvah projects. On February 9, students and their friends made dry soup packets for homebound people living with AIDS.
We average approximately 23 students per shabbat – this includes our Jewish students who frequently bring friends. Everyone is looking forward to spring. If I can be of any help or service to any parent or student, reach out to me at reena.judd@qu.edu or 203-582-8206. I will reach back as soon as I can. I hope everyone’s spring brings personal rejuvenation, and the world gets closer to Peace.

International Students and Scholars
Visit us in our new space
The Office of International Students and Scholars has moved! Come visit our new space in the Arnold Bernhard Library, suite ABSL-111. Students will enter the suite via ABLS-121, across from One Stop.
F-1 international students completing their degree in May 2024 are eligible to apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT) work authorization on or after February 20, 2024. Students must first submit an application in the ISS Portal to receive a new I-20 with OPT recommendation and then they apply online to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). USCIS approval takes 2-4 months, so it is very beneficial to apply early.
Please note that the USCIS filing fee for the I-765 Application for Employment Authorization (OPT and STEM OPT authorization) will increase from $410 to $470 as of April 1, 2024. OISS recommends eligible F-1 students file early to avoid the higher fee.
Non-residents in the U.S. are legally required to file a tax return if you received U.S. income during 2023 by the April 15, 2024 deadline. International students physically present in the U.S. in 2023 are still obligated to file a Form 8843 with the IRS even if they didn’t work or receive income. Quinnipiac has arranged access to Sprintax, a tax-preparation software for international students and scholars. Information regarding the tax-filing obligation is sent to F-1/J-1 students visa email through the spring term.
Graduating students can purchase a Quinnipiac-branded flag sash to wear at commencement on the Vision Wear website using the coupon QUINNIPIAC2024. All orders for free shipping must be received by midnight on April 17.

Study abroad can be done during a semester, academic year, or winter/summer session. Info sessions about these programs are about one hour long and are normally held at that start of each semester, and contain necessary information of where you can study, when is the best time for you to go, financial structure, and important policies and procedures put forth by Quinnipiac with regards to study abroad. Info sessions are required to attend or watch the recording before applying to go abroad. Link to sessions for Faculty-Led or Semester Abroad.
One Stop provides seamless and integrated student administrative services throughout the entire student life cycle. One Stop includes cross-functional student solutions for:
records and enrollment services
managing student finances
parking and transportation services
(One Stop works closely with and can provide preliminary information about financial aid, Q-Cards, housing and dining. Advanced registrar functions such as degree conferrals, Dean’s List and diplomas are administered through the Registrar.)
By this time in the term, all students should have resolved their balance. A balance is considered resolved when the student has paid in full, signed up for a payment plan or has sufficient financial aid to cover the balance. Students who do not resolve their balance will have a hold placed on their account. Accounts with holds will have late fees applied at the beginning of March. In addition, participation in the upcoming registration period for Summer and Fall 2024 is not possible for students with holds on their accounts. Please visit the Resolve a Balance Due page of our website to learn how to check if your student has a balance and how to resolve it.
Tax Season
As required by the Internal Revenue Service ("IRS"), Form 1098-T is mailed by January 31 to all students who had qualified tuition and other related educational expenses paid during the previous calendar year.
The information reported on Form 1098-T is intended to help students evaluate their eligibility for education tax assistantships as part of their federal income tax return. While it is a good starting point, the 1098-T, as designed and regulated by the IRS, does not contain all of the information needed to claim a tax credit. It is up to each taxpayer to determine eligibility for the credits and how to calculate them. IRS Publication 970 "Tax Benefits for Higher Education" as well as Chapter 35 of IRS Publication 17 provide additional information on these credits.
1098-T forms also are available through Self-Service when students login using their Quinnipiac credentials. Click on Tax Information and select 1098 Information to access 1098-T statements.
Please reference the following for assistance as needed:
Self-Service Student Finance Guide provides complete instructions on using Self-Service to set up a proxy, view and pay invoices and set up a payment plan.
Should you have additional questions that may not be addressed above, please contact One Stop at onestop@qu.edu. If your questions are about financial aid, please contact finaid@qu.edu.
Beginning May 1, 2023, tuition and fee payments via credit card will incur a 2.95% fee from our vendor. This is a slight increase from the fee that our vendor charged previously (which was 2.85%). ACH transactions will not incur any fees.
Beginning December 1, 2022, parking permits, parking tickets, and housing deposit transactions paid via credit or debit card will incur a 3.3% fee from our vendor. This is a slight increase from the fee that our vendor charged previously (which was 3.14%). ACH transactions will not incur any fees.
All students are reminded to check their student account balance in Self-Service regularly.
Outstanding balances result in financial holds and can lead to a late fee charge. A financial hold prevents students from registering for classes, adding or dropping a class, receiving final grades or transcripts and more.

Graduating Students
Commencement information can be found on the Commencement site. Students should verify their anticipated date of completion at their Stellic account. If dates need to be adjusted, please email registrar@qu.edu.
This is a reminder that all students should park their vehicles in the garages and lots associated with their parking permit. Failure to do so will result in a ticket or tow. Learn more about parking, permits and parking locations on the parking page.
Inclement Weather
Students should be vigilant and regularly check their email for parking advisories throughout the term, but especially when inclement weather is expected. These advisories will notify students where to park when storms are expected. The York Hill and North Haven parking garages are the preferred parking locations in inclement weather. As the garages fill, students will be advised to park in specific surface lots and may be asked to move their vehicles to other surface lots as the storm subsides so that each lot can be cleared.

For more information about shuttles (schedule, hours and stops), visit the shuttles page at QU.edu/shuttles
Student Conduct
Some key things we’d like for parents and families to be aware of:
Defend the Den – This is a student-led, bystander intervention initiative whose mission is to empower students to speak up in challenging situations and foster a kinder campus culture together. By increasing bystander awareness, we create a more positive and inclusive community where Bobcats can rely on each other. Students are encouraged to participate in trainings, and there are opportunities for leadership roles with Defend the Den. Learn more by visiting the Defend the Den webpage
Promoting Responsible Action in Health and Safety Emergencies – This important policy at Quinnipiac encourages students to seek help for themselves or their peers in situations where a student is at risk due to intoxication from alcohol or other drugs. Any circumstances when a person is intoxicated to the extent they are unconscious, unresponsive, or vomiting is a potential life-threatening medical emergency. When students take the responsible action of calling for help, neither the intoxicated student nor the student making the call are addressed through the student conduct process. Learn more in the university handbook
Suspended and Unrecognized Student Organizations – If your student makes the decision to join a student organization, please talk to them about the organization, and find out about the mission and values of the organization. All recognized student clubs and organizations, fraternities/sororities, and interest groups will be listed on Do You QU. If you have a question or concern, please contact the university. There are inherent risks associated with joining any organization that is not recognized or sponsored by the university, as they do not follow the same expectations or safety standards as recognized organizations.
Hazing – Joining any student organization should be a positive, safe, and encouraging experience. All hazing behavior is prohibited at Quinnipiac University and is illegal. Please talk to your student about hazing, and if you learn that they are experiencing hazing, do not hesitate to report your concerns to the university. You can access all reporting forms at qu.edu/report. In any emergency, please call Public Safety at 203-582-6200. For more information, please see the policy statement on Hazing in the handbook
Community, Assessment, Response and Evaluation (CARE) Team
The Quinnipiac CARE Team is here to support students navigating health and wellness, behavioral or situational concerns. One in three first year students received support from this team last academic year and there are staff all across the university community that are prepared to help students! If you are concerned about a Quinnipiac student, more information about how to submit a CARE referral can be found on the CARE webpage
