What the delay in FAFSA data means

The Department of Education announced on January 31 there will be a delay in releasing FAFSA results to all colleges and universities until at least the first half of March. This delay impedes financial aid officers in creating your financial aid offer. The FAFSA data informs us who is eligible for federal loans, grants and scholarships. We also use the FAFSA criteria to evaluate additional grant and scholarship eligibility.

A tool to estimate cost of attendance

We recognize that families need this crucial information to make informed decisions. While we wait for the FAFSA data to be delivered, we invite you to utilize the Net Price Calculator, a tool that can help determine what your actual annual cost would be to attend Quinnipiac. Though the results you receive will be estimates, as the information collected is not as detailed as that evaluated on the FAFSA, for most students the award values should be very close to accurate. For some students and families, this delay may seem disconcerting. Once the Department of Education releases the FAFSA information, be assured that we will work hard on getting your financial aid offer out to you as soon as possible. What’s New on the 2024 FAFSA

The FAFSA is now open

In years past, the FAFSA opened each year on October 1. To allow time for the changes to the FAFSA for this year, it opened in December of 2023. After the 2024-2025 financial aid year, the FAFSA will return to being open in October as usual.

Please note that because of significant Department of Education processing delays, we will not have information about FAFSA submissions or financial aid until the first half of March. Once FAFSA data is released to us, we are committed to sharing financial aid information as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.

The federal school code for Quinnipiac University is 001402.

Students must invite contributors to complete their FAFSA

Undergraduate-dependent students must invite their parent(s) to be a contributor on their FAFSA application. Undergraduate-independent students who are married may need to invite their spouse to be a contributor on their FAFSA application.

Students now “invite” a contributor to complete their portion of the FAFSA by entering the contributor’s name, date of birth, Social Security number and email address. Contributors without a Social Security number can still be invited to complete their portion.

Who is considered a contributor depends on the student’s individual situation. In addition to the student, the student's spouse, a biological or adoptive parent, and/or the parent's spouse may be included on the FAFSA. Watch a short video about determining who will be a contributor

Please note that each contributor — plus the student — must have an FSA ID account to access and fill out the FAFSA. Those who don’t have a Social Security number can still create an FSA ID account. Watch a short video about creating an FSA ID account

Tax return data will be directly transferred electronically

Starting with the 2024-2025 FAFSA, the tax return data will now be directly transferred from the IRS. This electronic transfer is no longer optional as in years past.

Consent and approval must be given from each contributor and the student to transfer their 2022 tax return.

Your financial aid need will be determined by the Student Aid Index

The Expected Family Contribution (EFC) has been reformulated and given a new name: the Student Aid Index (SAI).

What is not changing

The FAFSA application experience is changing, but many aspects of financial aid are remaining the same at Quinnipiac. These include:

• The types of financial aid available to students at Quinnipiac will remain the same.

• The FAFSA is still required for institutional, federal and state financial aid each year.

• How students determine whether they are a dependent for purposes of applying for financial aid is the same. Dependency determines whether your parent(s) must complete the FAFSA. Learn more about determining your dependency

• The FAFSA will still be using tax information from the prior-prior year, so students will complete it based on 2022 income and current assets.

• FAFSA will continue to collect information about applicant's gender, race and ethnicity only for statistics and data purposes; they do not effect your federal student aid eligibility.

The 2024-2025 academic year FAFSA is now open.

While we review late applications, funding availability is tentative after the prescribed deadlines. Please fill out the FAFSA as early as possible.
