Academic Student Groups

Quinnipiac Future Teachers Organization

Students majoring in the same discipline don't just study together - they make an impact on the local community and beyond. From volunteer work to fundraisers, Quinnipiac students love to make a difference.

In February 2012, a group of occupational therapy students sewed 75 pillow cases for the New Haven Ronald McDonald House Charities, an organization that supports families with children battling cancer. OT students also visit local middle schools annually to discuss and run fun workshops on topics such as bicycle and pedestrian safety.

Nursing students also help improve the community by volunteering with a veterans' hospital in West Haven and collecting and distributing food baskets to seniors in Hamden. In 2012, nursing students turned their focus overseas by collecting toiletries for troops deployed in Afghanistan.

The physical therapy club strives to improve the lives of those in the local community with physical disabilities. QU students provide massage clinics and get involved in events such as community wheelchair basketball and the Gaylord Fitness Festival.

The Quinnipiac Future Teachers Organization hosts several learning events in area schools. In February 2012, the QFTO held a two-hour STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) workshop for 100 children at Pond Hill Elementary School in Wallingford, Conn. During the program, the students presented several lessons in age-appropriate, interactive formats.

Academic groups at Quinnipiac are a natural jumping point for finding students with similar academic and career interests and for getting involved beyond the Quinnipiac campus.
