Two Quinnipiac University student teams split $4,500 in prize money during a Dec. 7 competition that served as the climax of a semester-long digital business class.

The winning team, called 6Pack’d, pitched an app designed to allow craft-beer aficionados to share their preferences and experiences in a social-media environment. Judges awarded 6Pack’d the $4,000 first prize. The 6Pack’d team included: Jeremy Caulkins of Rochester, New York; Allison Foltiny of Lawrence Township, New Jersey; and Todd Friedman of West Hartford, all entrepreneurship and small business management majors; and Katherine Minet of Montclair, New Jersey, a psychology major.

Picking up second place in the competition was Find, Play, Win, which pitched a social-media-based app designed to help students meet new people through intramural and pick-up sports. Judges awarded Find, Play, Win the $500 second prize. Pitching for the team were members Sean Cote of Westwood, Massachusetts, an entrepreneurship and small business management major; Daniel Centofanti of Stamford, an economics major; Craig Mattson of Holden, Massachusetts, a health science and physical therapy major; and Justin Cait of Encino, California, a journalism major.

The class was co-taught by David A. Tomczyk, associate professor of entrepreneurship and strategy, and Kevin R. Convey, assistant professor of journalism. Tomczyk donated $2,500 of the grand prize, and Connecticut Ventures, an organization that provides capital, resources, and guidance to entrepreneurs, provided $2,000.
