Appeal
1. An individual who has been found responsible for a violation of the academic integrity policy may appeal the decision of the Hearing Board. As this policy generally lies within the realm of Academic Affairs, the appeal is made directly to the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs or her/his designee. During this appeal process, the original sanction is held in abeyance until an appeal decision has been made.
2. Any sanction of a suspension, dismissal or expulsion will automatically be sent to the Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs or her/his designee for appeal.
While suspensions, dismissals and expulsions are automatically forwarded to the Office of Academic Affairs for appeals review the affected students in these cases should also submit a formal letter stating the grounds (see above) under which their appeal should be considered.
3. A formal letter of appeal must be submitted within 48 hours of the written notification of the decision and must list any of the following specific grounds for the appeal:
a. Improper academic judicial procedures
b. Additional or new relevant information has been discovered.
c. The sanction was not consistent or appropriate with the nature of the violation.
4. The Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs or her/his designee will meet with the individual involved and may meet with other witnesses. He or she then will decide to:
a. Concur with the original decision and sanction
b. Concur with the original decision and request the Academic Integrity Hearing Board to reconsider the sanction.
c. Request the Academic Integrity Hearing Board to reconsider the decision and sanction.
d. Overturn the decision.
5. The Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs or her/his designee will notify all appropriate individuals involved in the case, the Director of Academic Integrity, and any appropriate Quinnipiac University personnel (Dean, registrar, bursar, etc) of the decision.
