November 16, 2005 - Florida Voters In New York State Of Mind For 2008, Quinnipiac University Poll Finds; Support For President Bush, Iraq War At New Low

Florida voters would like to see New York Sen. Hillary Clinton face off against former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani in the 2008 Presidential race, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.
Clinton is the darling among Democrats with 50 percent, ahead of Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry with 26 percent and former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards with 18 percent, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN uh-pe-ack) University poll finds.
Among Republican voters, Giuliani leads with 56 percent, followed by Arizona Sen. John McCain with 27 percent and Virginia Sen. George Allen with 9 percent.
A look at some frequently mentioned 2008 Presidential election matchups shows:
McCain beats Clinton 48 - 42 percent; Giuliani beats Clinton 50 - 44 percent.
McCain gets 41 percent of women voters and 20 percent of Democrats. Giuliani gets 45 percent of women voters and 19 percent of Democrats.
"Two New Yorkers - Sen. Hillary Clinton and Mayor Rudy Giuliani - are the Democratic and Republican choices for President among Florida voters at this early stage. While Clinton is a clear favorite among Democrats, she would lose to either Giuliani or Sen. John McCain in Florida in the general election," said Clay F. Richards, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.
If Gov. Jeb Bush were to run for President in 2008, 33 percent of Florida voters say they "definitely" or "probably" would vote for him, while 58 percent say they "probably" or "definitely" would not vote for him. Bush Approval
Florida voters disapprove 61 - 37 percent of the job President George W. Bush is doing, the President's lowest approval in any Quinnipiac University Florida poll.
Voters disapprove 64 - 31 percent of the President's handling of the war in Iraq and say 60 - 36 percent that going to war in Iraq was the wrong thing to do.
From November 8 - 13, Quinnipiac University surveyed 855 Florida registered voters with a margin of error of +/- 3.4 percentage points. The survey includes 281 Democrats with a margin of error of +/- 5.9 percentage points, and 305 Republicans with a margin of error of +/- 5.6 percentage points.
