June 23, 2006 - Giuliani Leads New York Presidential Pack, Quinnipiac University New York State Poll Finds; Bloomberg Tops Pataki As Presidential Pick

Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani leads Sen. Hillary Clinton when New York State voters rate native - or not so native - sons and daughter as possible Presidents, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg leads Gov. George Pataki on the Presidential guess list, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds.
Giuliani would be a "great" President, 24 percent of New York voters say, while 37 percent say he would be a "good" President; 22 percent say "so-so," and 16 percent say "bad."
Sen. Hillary Clinton gets 16 percent "great," 33 percent "good," 23 percent "so-so" and 26 percent "bad."
Bloomberg gets 9 percent "great," 38 percent "good," 36 percent "so-so" and 11 percent "bad."
Gov. George Pataki gets 4 percent "great," 21 percent "good," 45 percent "so-so" and 30 percent "bad."
"Mayor Mike's Mother might be happy to read that 47 percent of New Yorkers, including 47 percent of Democrats, say Bloomberg would make a great or good President," said Maurice Carroll, Director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.
"Those Republican and independent voter numbers are good news for Rudolph Giuliani, and troubling signs for Sen. Clinton. And if there is any good news for Gov. Pataki, we can't find it," Carroll said.
A total of 49 percent of Democrats say Giuliani would be a "great" or "good" President, compared to 74 percent for Clinton.
But 86 percent of Republican voters and 60 percent of independent voters rate Giuliani "great" or "good," compared to 23 percent of Republicans and 37 percent of independent voters rating Clinton "great" or "good."
Among New York City voters, 57 percent say Bloomberg would make a "great" or "good" President, while 29 percent say "so-so" and 12 percent say "bad."
Clinton gets 59 percent "great" or "good" in New York City, with 19 percent "so- so" and 17 percent "bad".
Giuliani gets 50 percent "great" or "good" from New York City voters, with 23 percent "so-so" and 26 percent "bad".
"America's Mayor, Rudolph Giuliani, does not score as well as the current Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, or Sen. Clinton in New York City," Carroll said.
From June 12 - 19, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,204 New York State registered voters with a margin of error of +/- 2.8 percentage points.
