The Move-In Crew helps freshmen carry their belongings into residence halls
You’ll have a moving experience

When you first arrive on Quinnipiac's campus, you'll literally be greeted with open arms.

About 500 upperclassmen are stationed at the freshmen areas to help students unload and move their belongings into their new home. The helpers are easy to spot, as they wear bright blue t-shirts that read, "What can blue do for you."

Families are grateful. "The Move-In Crew was really helpful. Everything went straight to my room," said Melissa Gorman, a freshman in the School of Communications. "It all went so smoothly," added Terry Gorman, Melissa's mom. "We're getting spoiled. We're going to want this again next year." Freshman Connor Hardy, a student in the College of Arts and Sciences, agrees. "They made it really easy to get settled."

The tradition also helps ease freshman anxiety. The upperclassmen do it all--they show students where their rooms are and offer tips on the most efficient use of the space, as well as answer questions. Sophomore Erin Webster said, "I participate in Move-In Crew because it was so welcoming to have upperclassmen inviting and cheering me into my new home on the first day of school that I want to keep the tradition alive!"

Why do the helpers come back year after year? They don't get paid, and they don't get credit. They come back because they love Quinnipiac and want to share their excitement with new students. Junior Shanice Owens said the Move-In Crew gives first-year students an opportunity to meet upper-class students. "They get a chance to see just how close the Quinnipiac community really is," she said. "It's also really fun!"
