Dwayne Boucaud, associate professor of biomedical sciences in the School of Health Sciences, will present the lecture, "Molecular Mechanisms of African American Outcome Disparities in Breast Cancer," at 12 noon on Friday, Nov. 13, in the Carl Hansen Student Center, Room 207.
This free community event is part of the Quinnipiac Sigma Xi Albert Notation Memorial Seminar Series.
Although breast cancer incidence rates in African American women are lower than their Caucasian counterparts, African American mortality rates are significantly higher. This disparity in outcome is not only related to environmental and behavioral factors but to the molecular genetics of the tumors themselves. Boucaud will address molecular aspects of breast cancer, which may lead to these disparities as well as look at new research in this area.
Boucaud received his bachelor's degree and PhD degrees at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He has been a member of the Quinnipiac faculty since 2007.
This event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 203-582-8652.
