New York Times features story on Long Wharf Theatre partnership

The New York Times featured a story about the University's five-year partnership agreement with Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven, Conn. Under the agreement, students will mount three to four productions per year at Long Wharf, using the theater's shops for technical production of the plays.

The first production staged under the agreement was Euripides' "Medea," an ancient Greek tragedy of jealousy and revenge, starring Mary Vreeland. The play, which ran from Feb. 27 to March 2 on the main stage at Long Wharf Theatre, was directed by theater professor Kelly Morgan.

In this year's "Best Places to Live and Launch," Money magazine mentions Quinnipiac as a reason why Hamden is one of the 100 "best places" to live in the U.S.

The story mentions Quinnipiac's picturesque campus and top business school. This year Money's list focused on towns that combine a great business environment with alluring leisure offerings. The magazine looked at economic conditions, such as local tax rates, alongside natural beauty, easy access to museums, outdoor activities and more. Hamden was ranked 33rd.

Quinnipiac Poll cited in election coverage nationwide
With the 2008 presidential race heating up, the Quinnipiac Poll has been frequently mentioned in the election coverage of a range of news publications and Web sites.

Results from the Feb. 14 swing state poll were cited in numerous outlets, including the Washington Post, CBS, Forbes.com, the Orlando Sentinel and USA Today. The March 3 Ohio presidential poll was mentioned in more than 80 media outlets, including the Houston Chronicle, the Toledo Blade, Fox News and the Orange County Register of Calif.

Mint, a national business newspaper in India, quoted Xiaohong He in a story on entrepreneurship in India and China. The story, "Learning to Venture: Entrepreneurship Enters the Campus," examined the trend toward educating students to be entrepreneurs. "I see entrepreneurial skills and education as the way to economic freedom, and we in academia have the responsibility to find out what can be taught and learnt in this area," she said. He, a professor of international business, is working on a comparative study of entrepreneurship in China and India.

Joan Isaac Mohr, vice president and dean of admissions, was quoted in a New York Times story on college admissions. The story, "Admissions Anxiety, With a Twist," examines the challenges faced by high school seniors who are applying for college in an increasingly competitive pool. "It's gotten nutty," Mohr was quoted as saying about the number of schools many students apply to. "The rise in applications only increases the competition. But I understand that they feel they need to increase their options," Mohr said.

The online magazine ScienceDaily featured an article about Professor Carrie Bulger's analysis of a University of Michigan study on older workers and stress. The study found that older workers generally report low levels of work-related stress. Bulger and her colleagues examined the prevalence of different kinds of job stressors reported by participants between the ages of 53 and 85. They also examined how those stressors relate to workers' life satisfaction and physical health.

Christopher Dodd's speech picked up in six states outside Connecticut
Christopher Dodd's speech on campus Oct. 1, in support of his new book "Letters from Nuremberg: My Father's Narrative of a Quest for Justice," received press coverage nationwide. The book presents a personal and detailed look at the Nuremberg Trials through the letters of his father, the late Sen. Thomas J. Dodd, who was a member of the executive trial counsel.
